Dance is by its nature a performance art. Accordingly, the true spirit of dance can only be captured in a live performance.
Melbourne Dance Photography can provide on-location photography of your dance school or dance company's performances, rehearsals and classes in progress.
For class-in-progress photography, we work with your dance teachers to produce both candid and choreographed photographs for your school. With your permission, our photographer will move around your classroom as you teach or rehearse, capturing the atmosphere and style of your classes. We make as much use of natural light as your school permits, and supplement this with studio flash lighting where necessary.
For dress-rehearsal and performance photography, Melbourne Dance Photography will attend your event and photograph your performance under stage lights. We recommend dress-rehearsal photography rather than performance photography, so that our photographer can take advantage of the empty auditorium. Additionally, choosing to photograph your rehearsal rather than your performance removes a potential source of distraction for your dancers during performance.
Photographs from the shoot will be provided to your school on CD within six business days. You will receive colour, black-and-white, and sepia-toned versions of all photos. For some schools, this will be all you need from Melbourne Dance Photography — you can get prints made from the CD, and you can add individual images from the CD to your dance school's web site. You can even provide copies of the CD to your school students.
If you have specific image uses in mind though, for example advertising in the national dance magazines, your school can go on to select individual photographs for professional toning, editing and pre-press preparation. This optional service is charged per image, allowing us to keep the standard hourly rate for photography down. You only pay for editing and toning of images your school will use.
