About Us

Melbourne Dance Photography provides professional photography services for dancers and dance schools.

At Melbourne Dance Photography, we believe our work is about the meeting of the two most beautiful visual arts. So we work with you — as a dancer, choreographer or artistic director — to produce photographs that exhibit technical skill while conveying the grace and aesthetic of your dance.

Our photographer — David Barnes — has several years experience photographing professional and training dancers, with a special focus on classical and contemporary ballet. David is accomplished at working with dancers in photographic studios, in dance halls, on location, and in performance venues with full stage lighting.

After working as a stock photographer and portrait photographer, David made the personal choice to specialise in dance photography. He is inspired by the musical and aesthetic beauty of dance, and the technical challenges of producing masterful dance photographs. David is not a routine commercial photographer trying to expand his market — he is an artistic dance photographer.

Melbourne Dance Photography is located in inner Melbourne. We work in studios in North Melbourne and St Kilda East.
